:: VMware Fusion

Fusion is great. Boot Camp will let you run Windows on an Intel-based Mac, but you have to restart the Mac and once in Windows mode, you cant access the Mac portion without restarting back into Mac mode. Fusion fixes all that. It is a Windows emulator (like the old Virtual PC and Soft PC programs). With Fusion, you can run Windows while running the Mac OS. Fusion is the best integrated emulator I have seen for Windows. You can easily switch peripherals back and forth from Mac to Windows through the click of the mouse. Window is still fast even though it is emulating Windows in its own window on the Mac desktop.

I dont recommend it for playing the newer high-speed, graphics intensive games - for that, I would reboot into Windows using Boot Camp - but for those of us that have to use some Windows programs, but like the Mac for most things, this is the answer.

The one MAJOR drawback (and it isnt VMWares fault), is if you boot into Windows through Boot Camp, Windows, Symantec/Norton products, and some other applications require re-validation. Then when you boot back into Mac and runs Fusion, those same programs require re-validation again. After several re-validations, programs like Symantec wont allow re-validation via the Internet (they limit the number of Internet-based validations) - so a phone call to Symentec is required to reactivate your application every time you switch back and forth. Very painful. Apparently, this happens because, to protect against copyright theft, if there is significant change in the system set-up (like the difference between Boot Camp Windows and Fusion Windows), it will require re-validation. Again - this is not the fault of VMWare - it is the fault of Microsoft (for Windows) and Symantec (for Internet Security, Anti-Virus, etc).

Bottom Line: If you need Windows applications once in a while and you dont want to have to reboot each time, this is the product for you. It is quite seemless.
